Gas mixer · Wirbelfixx

Mixing with gas — not with electricity. For more methane and less CO₂ in your biogas.

As a biogas plant operator, you have probably tried any number of agitators over the years — maybe even a gas mixer. Our experience with them was mixed: the mixing works, but a huge volume of digestate is moved, and that costs electricity. We only wanted to move the gas. That’s exactly what the Wirbelfixx does. And because CO₂ dissolves in the substrate in the process, your biogas has a higher methane content and less CO₂ — ideal for biomethane plants.

Our principle

Most systems move the entire substrate. We only move the gas.

We have further developed the principle of the airlift pump and adapted it to the conditions in the digester. We push the biogas into the tank, the digestate is drawn in by itself — and the resulting mixture stirs the digester. Mixing works without having to circulate tonnes of substrate.

Your technical benefits

Less electricity, less maintenance, no wear.

Everything else follows from one single difference: only the biogas is moved directly.

Electricity

Low power consumption

Instead of circulating tonnes of substrate, the Wirbelfixx only moves the light biogas. That’s the difference on your electricity bill.

Maintenance

Hardly any maintenance

No agitator shaft constantly working its way through the substrate. Fewer moving parts in the tank means significantly less to maintain.

Wear

No wear

What doesn’t rotate in the substrate can’t wear out either. No mechanical wear from moving agitators in the digester.

Your biological & economic benefits

More methane, better efficiency — and noticeably less feedstock.

Because the biogas is led through the substrate, part of the CO₂ dissolves in the digestate. The methane content of the biogas rises — and with it the electrical efficiency of the CHP unit. You need less feedstock for the same amount of electricity.

One percent more efficiency means 2.5% less feedstock. With 20,000 t of feedstock, that is 500 t a year that don’t have to be harvested — and digestate that doesn’t have to be spread.

And if you upgrade to biomethane, you have to separate less CO₂: that saves energy and reduces wear on the upgrading unit.

More from your plant or your biogas upgrading

Our goal: 65% methane before the CHP unit or the upgrading.

The Wirbelfixx is one of the building blocks to get there. We look at the biology of your plant as a whole — from the feedstocks through pre-treatment to the mixing technology. More methane in the raw gas means higher efficiency and less effort for upgrading.

Honest pre-selection

Are we a good fit?

We say openly what the Wirbelfixx is the right answer for — and what it isn’t. That saves you time.

The Wirbelfixx is a fit if …

you run a biogas plant and want to reduce the power consumption of your mixing technology.

maintenance and wear of your current agitators bother you.

you want more methane in your biogas and better CHP efficiency.

you upgrade to biomethane and want to save on CO₂ separation.

Probably not the right fit if …

your existing mixing technology runs economically and you don’t want to change anything.

you are only looking for the cheapest solution and don’t care about electricity, maintenance and yield costs over the lifetime.

you only want to hear that everything is possible. We tell you honestly where a gas mixer fits and where it doesn’t.

Next step

Could this be something for you?

Then let’s talk. Tell us about your plant — we’ll estimate what the Wirbelfixx can save you in electricity and maintenance and gain in yield.
